Hi everyone,

I have a 286 AT that I built for a client - an IBM model 30 to be exact - I got everything working hardware wise on it... I have windows 3.0 and dos 5.0 running on it...

But i have forgotten -- it's been sooo long i have totally forgotten how the file stuff works... i am trying to get all the games i downloaded from archive.org (dos games mostly)... but they are in the following formats:

.ima
.img
.cp2
.dsk
.pdi

What do i do with these formats? I am a assuming they are archive formats... like a .rar or .zip but I can't get any modern compression/decompression programs to be able to read them and unpack them.. What part am I missing? I really don't want to make a bazillion disks... I wanted to put all these games on the hard drive and be able to run them all from there...

Is this even possible? Do I have to convert these files with something? I tried doing searches on the internet but I guess this technology is old enough no one is posting about it and there are no real websites to go to for info - except this one lol . Advice please?

At least some of these are disk image files. Winimage will handle .ima, .dsk and (I think) .img files.

I'm not sure what .cp2 and .pdi formats are.

Yeah those all sound like disk images. I would suspect you'd need an intermediate machine to open the images and convert them into physical media the 286 can deal with.

hmmm this just parrots what I was thinking, but thanks for the thoughts...

Hopefully someone else will come along with more specific info on what I should do...

I will check out winimage...

I DO have some blank disks I could copy things too - although again I would prefer to be able to run all these things from the hard drive... There's far too many for me to be making disks for each one...

Ok... winimage DOES uncompress all the .im* files which is the bulk of them - THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! for that little tidbit...

I know what to do with them from there...

BUT that does still leave me the problem of what to do with the .cp2 and .pdi files? ideas??? Thanks again!!!!!!!!!!

[I found this on the web...at
http://www.faq.msxnet.org/suffix.html

What is a [.CP2] file?

These files are disk images created by the program Snatchit/Copy2PC [cp2todsk.lzh]... This/these programmes are needed to convert the files to a real disk and work under MS-DOS.

Might be worth following up on...

I am and shall - thanks for the tip!

I think I found a workaround tho - I double checked and there's only a handful that are the different format... i think i can download them as a different boot image which i can use winimage on...

thanks!!!!!!!!!
