Australasian Heritage Software Database launch

Postby tezza on Tue Feb 07, 2012 1:10 pm

This worthwhile initiative to preserve our history may be of interest to some...especially if you have written software way back. I received this because I'm on the project's mailing list. The related project cited at the bottom of this letter is the one mentioned here on these forums.

Dear Supporters,

The Australasian Heritage Software Database is now online (at http://www.ourdigitalheritage.org), and it is ready to accept entries from the public and others.

We are now moving to publicise the project. I have attached a media release for your information. This is going out today. Please feel free to post or forward this, or re-use within your organisation to help us get the word out about the database, etc. If you have direct contact with software authors through your organisation, if would be helpful if you could draw this to their attention and encourage them to enter and document their software. (There is a contact email on the site.)

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions, or any suggestions re opportunities for the project's further development.

I will be presenting a talk about the project at the Australasian Association for the Digital Humanities (aaDH) Conference, Digital Humanities Australasia 2012: Building, Mapping, Connecting. This is being held in Canberra, 28-30 March, 2012.

regards,

Melanie

P.S. You might be interested to know about a recent success on a related project -- the multidisciplinary team which I lead, in conjunction with the ACMI and NZ Film Archive won ARC Linkage funding for an Australasian digital games history and preservation project, c.1980s, "Play It Again: Creating a Playable History of Australasian Digital Games, for Industry, Community and Research Purposes" (2012-14).
