Best workbench setup for Amiga 4000?

Postby Clym5 on Thu Mar 12, 2015 11:03 pm

Hey all,

I've recently come into owning an Amiga 4000/040, and I was wondering what one of these OS packs would be good? I used the ClassicWB LITE on my A1200 and it worked well. I'm not sure how well the 4000 would handle the better ones, as I'm unfamiliar with anything better than a 020 and 2mb RAM!

The A4000 has an Apollo Turbo 4040 - 4060 (040 fitted), and 18mb of RAM (I should properly check, could be more). I'll put a CF card SSD in it instead of the clunky 6gb drive.

The link to the workbench packs is here: http://classicwb.abime.net/index.htm

I was thinking 3.5 or 3.9, but I'm not too sure.
Amiga 4000: Apollo Turbo 040, 128MB Fast, 40gb HDD, CD-ROM (needs internet)
C64: 1541U-II, MixSID, WiFi, LumaFix64
ZX Spec, A1200, CD32, MacPlus/SE, A500, BBC Turbo Master (NASA), 2600, Acorn 4000, VIC-20, IBM 5155, GameBoy

Sorry to jump in on your conversation here Clym5

I'm also curious which of these would best suit my A600 also. I recall I had issues with them not working under WinUAE so I didn't bother to copy them to the CF Card - though that could just have been an emulator issue.

Can't help with the Amiga 4000 question.
The Amiga 600 I use the GAAE edition http://classicwb.abime.net/classicweb/gaae.htm

For the 4K it really depends on your intended use. If it were mine and it had 3.1 ROMs I'd be going all out and installing AmigaOS 3.9.
Just the local Commodore hobo and middle-aged PC hoarder.
