Hello

Introduce yourself. Tell people why you are interested in vintage computers and what (if anything) you've got.

Hello

Hi

Just introducing myself. Remember the 1st computer I ever saw was a ZX81 at Christchurch South Intermediate. Remember vividly everybody playing Mazogs on it! I think despite its obvious limitations, the ZX81 remains in my mind the cooliest of them all.

My own computing history:
16k ZX Spectrum (cassette based) - Grandma got it for me for birthday
Atari 130XE (cassette based) - Parents got this because guy down the road was a member of the Atari Users Group in ChCh. Sold the Speccy to get some $$$
Apple IIe - used these at Cashmere High School. Dad swapped his trailor to the guy who built his garage to get the IIe

All of these machines have long gone! :(

I always regret I didn't have the patience/concentration todo more with these machines. Even to this day I have a "dream" of writting a machine code/assembly language game for one of the 8 bit platforms.

As a kid I would dream about owning a range of machines, depending on the week/time of day etc!

At the moment I have a ZX81 set up. Also a Tandy 102 (see my website about it - horribly out of date - http://planetnz.com/palmheads/tandy.php). I did have a US TI-99/4a, but sold it on trademe about 6 years ago.Never got around todo anything with it.

Have always had a soft spot for the Sega SC3000(H). Felt like it had a good backing in NZ back in the day.

Have just got an order in for a ZXPand for the ZX81, so am looking forward to plugging that in.

Am learning machine code for the ZX81 also at the moment.

Anyway, thats me!

Good to join this forum!

cheers

Welcome to the forums! I've had a quick look at your website, it good, really good, you have the coolest modded xbox and is that a happy hacking keyboard? Yes, that is one keyboard I would love to own (alongside my model m2)

Ha, yes LiJoe, have got a very very old modded xbox somewhere in the garage. And my beloved happy hacking keyboard. I use it daily at work. They are so expensive, but lovely to use. Unfortunately my PalmHeads website hasn't been updated in a longtime. Once Palm died, and Android (for me) became the daily device, the whole tinkering with stuff went out the window. I like Android, but I loved the old PalmPilot.

Yeah the Sega SC3000 was interesting. Can't wait for my SC3000H to arrive (ebay). About a year ago I purchased the multi-cart.

Finally will be able to use it!

Alot of cool stuff was made for it here in NZ. It really was only released in Japan, Oz & here. And limited release in Europe. The face it did reasonably well here (because of 'Grandstands' marketing I guess back in the day) was kinda cool.

Welcome to the forums Daryn. Yes, in some ways we are fortunate in NZ in that we got a mix of British, American and even Japanese machines. Not to mention our proximity to Asia hence clean clone machines (Apple and PC).

Anyway, hope you have fun here.

Welcome to the forum! I've done a bit with the SC-3000 and have both of the Multi-carts (blue and black) from the multi-cart website. If you run into Nick, he is on these forums and is the owner of the SC-3000 multi-cart site. SC-3000s are his thing.

Any Qs, just ask.

Marcus

Indeed welcome... :)

ZX81 Machine code - Cool stuff! I used to do that on my old Speccy - I wrote up a load of notes when I was coding - if they're of interest (just to see my code notes - after all, its all Z80 assembler so perhaps the code has something useful in it) then I have some scans of these old code on my google drive here:

My friend has also just recently said he's happy to give my ZX81 back to me as well - That'll be super-sweet as its the first computer I ever got (yes, I am a hoarder) ;) However whether I'll try do any MCode programming with it, I don't know.

I also recall the SC3000's - mostly annoying the staff in Woolworths (when it was a retail store chain), Smith and Browns and of course Farmers - sitting there and playing Star Jacker, Monaco GP, Borderline and Yamato while my parents did that 'boring' shopping... lol! :D

In fact, talking machine code - I did write up a handful of notes on programming the 3000's audio (I had a couple of them for a short while many moons back) - though I never really bothered and gave them to a friend a few weeks later - returning to my trusted Speccy...

Anyway, have fun with coding that ZX81- its where I started out (well, the school had Apple II's before I got the 81, but that's a whole other story)

Cheers kevman3d - will have a good look at those examples!

Its actually real cool alot of the documentation is now pretty much public domain as well - so many pdf's of books/manuals etc which would have cost a small fortune back in the day are everywhere on the internet.

Yeh, I found that as well when I was looking at material for the Atari 600XL - all of those great 'programming games on your Atari' type books scanned and downloadable from various sites... I still have a lot of 'physical' books here mind you (ZX81/Speccy mostly) - having the 'real' thing is always nice when it comes to collecting, but its great to know that there are digitally archived copies around so those books don't become lost completely :)
