hi all

Introduce yourself. Tell people why you are interested in vintage computers and what (if anything) you've got.

Hi guys, I'm new here, my name is David.
I want to reanimate an a old vintage computer, the IBM PS/2 55SX.
The dead component is the Real Time Clock (in particular, the battery inside).
Is it possible to simulate with a BASIC Stamp micro-controller the behavior of a DS1287 so that I can boot my old IBM PS/2 55SX?
The DS1287 pin are damaged (I mean current can not flow between the broken DS1287 and its socket) so I can't modify it, to use another battery.

Sigh.

I was a "Computer Service Engineer" for an IBM dealer in Wellington when the PS/2 line came out.

Those puppies were NOT CHEAP.

I went through the IBM servers from PC to PS/2 and xSeries with a few System 36, i and p as well.
Still fixing them, at least for a short while longer.

You should be able to replace it according to this info:
The DS12885, DS12887, and DS12C887 real-time clocks (RTCs) are designed to be direct replacements for the DS1285 and DS1287

Around $22 plus local freight.

I use RS for most of my parts and find the service excellent.
